En los dos últimos años muchas instituciones de microfinanzas (IMF) de Latinoamérica fueron afectadas fuertemente por los efectos de la crisis financiera internacional y aunque el sector de microfinanzas en Perú  logró un desempeño distinto al experimentado en el resto de la región. De esta manera, al cierre de 2009, en el presente informe se analiza el desempeño observado por las IMF durante el año y especialmente durante la segunda mitad de la crisis financiera.

A fines del 2008 muchas preguntas se formularon acerca del impacto que tendría la crisis internacional en el sector de microfinanzas peruano, y aún cuando sus efectos se hicieron visibles recién en los últimos meses del año, la incertidumbre obligaba a preguntarse cuán preparados se encuentran las IMF para semejante contingencia y qué cambios debemos hacer para fortalecer nuestras instituciones.

Algunas de las Instituciones de Microfinanzas (IMF) peruanas no solo utilizan un modelo de negocio financiero basado en otorgar créditos sino también, movilizan depósitos del público. A pesar de ser montos más pequeños (microdepósitos), probaron ser más estables a lo largo del tiempo que los captados por una institución bancaria tradicional.Justamente es en los depósitos en donde se dieron avances importantes tras la incursión de algunas Cajas Municipales desde el año 2002 en la ciudad de Lima.

2006 Peru Benchmarking Report

The second annual Peru Benchmarking Report, produced by MIX and COPME, compares the performance of Peruvian microfinance institutions with their peers within the country and with those in the rest of the Latin America region.

The 2006 Peru Benchmarking Report contains benchmarking data on 38 Peruvian MFIs, the largest sample collected to date. The report shows three-year dynamic trend data on microfinance institutional performance, peer groups by location, and peer groups by type of credit focus.

2005 Peru Microfinance Benchmarking Report

En la edición del año pasado (Benchmarking entre las IMF’s Peruanas y Latinoamericanas) se concluyó que las Instituciones de Microfinanzas (IMF’s) peruanas en conjunto tienen respecto a los resultados de la Región, un mayor nivel de apalancamiento, menor volumen de cartera y prestatarios, mayores niveles de Riesgo y Rentabilidad. Pero al distinguir las IMF’s No Reguladas peruanas, que concentran cerca del 5% del mercado nacional, éstas atienden exclusivamente al segmento de menores ingresos, su financiamiento es mayormente con capital propio, y obtienen una menor Rentabilidad.
