MIX presents the “2006-2011 Trends for the Latin American and the Caribbean microfinance market”, an update to the trend report published in August 2011. This report shows the region’s performance based on a variety of indicators in categories such as outreach, growth, credit types, financial structure, and profitability and risk. The data was compiled from a sample of the 48 largest Latin America and the Caribbean MFIs, which cover more than 55% of the clients in the region.

Our analysis shows that while there was greater progress in portfolio growth across the region, this growth continues to be heterogeneously observed by sub-regions. The major performance in South America was due to rapid recovery of microentrepreneurial activity, which in Central America is ocurring at a slower place. In Mexico, the intense growth showed a saturation of the market, especially in the southern part of the country.
