Resilience of Microfinance Institutions to Macroeconomic Events

Date:
November 2007

The Discussion Paper, authored by MIX research analyst Adrian Gonzalez, is the first comprehensive study of its kind to examine the resiliency of microfinance insitutions to national macroeconomic events. The sample size of 639 microfinance institutions in 88 countries represents 36 million borrowers and a loan portfolio of $13.7 billion US dollars.

As the microfinance industry continues to boom, regulators, investors, borrowers and other actors are interested in the impact systemic economic shocks may have on the performance of an MFI.
