MIX’s 2006 Latin America and the Caribbean Benchmarking Report covers 228 microfinance providers for benchmarks and 135 MFIs for trends from 2004-2006. MIX would like to thank our network partners ASOFIN (Bolivia), COPEME (Peru), ProDesarrollo (Mexico), RADIM (Argentina), REDCAMIF (Central America) and Red Financiera (Ecuador) for their valuable support.
Growth was robust as the region’s MFIs increased their median loan portfolios by 50%. Microfinance institutions in Latin America finished the year with 9.7 billion USD in loan portfolios and 9 million borrowers. Strong competition and increased operational efficiency allowed regional MFIs to lower their interest rates, while increasing returns from 2005.
