Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) seeks a talented individual to join our dynamic and growing team based in the heart of Washington, DC. We are seeking someone who is interested in using technology for social good.  This will be a great fit for someone who is not afraid to challenge the status quo!

The Junior Web Developer will be responsible for the maintenance of existing websites and applications that are critical to MIX’s mission and core business operations.  The selected individual will work under the direction of the Chief Information Officer to continually improve existing applications to align these more closely to current business needs.

The position requires a professional with great analytical and problem-solving skills, project management skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and strong communication and collaboration skills.  The individual must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability of self-direction and initiative.  Above all, the successful candidate will be client- and solution-oriented.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work collaboratively with leadership team, program leads and analysts to understand current state business processes
  • Perform detailed analysis of business requirements
  • Translate business requirements to creative, functional and technical requirements
  • Understand "current state" architecture and capabilities
  • Understand “target state” architecture and capabilities
  • Document all business requirements and design documents
  • Create and execute development, integration and QA plans

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 3 years hands-on PHP experience
  • 2 years hands-on development experience with Drupal 6
  • 1 year experience with the Views2 API
  • 1  year experience with data aggregation
  • familiarity with object oriented programming principles
  • 3 years experience with a popular web framework (MVC, etc.)
  • 2+ years experience with a popular RDBMS (mySQL preferred)
  • 2+ Linux system administration experience
  • 2+ years experience in web application testing (automated preferred)
  • 2+ experience with a version control system (Codesion, GitHub, etc.)
  • ability to work in both team and self-managed situations
  • great communication skills, with both technical and non-technical team members
  • command line comfort (Drupal, mySQL and Linux)
